How can I help?
The closing of the Paradise School has spurred a small group of concerned local residents to create the Paradise Elementary School Preservation Committee. The Committee has identified multiple uses for the schoolhouse, multipurpose room and the school grounds for the next 100 years.
The Paradise School District has until June 2016 to decide the future of the facility. We do not intend to let our school sit vacant and deteriorate into a pile of rubble The school board is aware of our efforts and will consider any plan of action we set forth. We are preparing a detailed plan that will give the board confidence that our group has the motivation, knowledge and community support to complete this project.
Now is the time to get involved and take an active role in the project. Here are some ways you can be involved:
You can participate in the planning discussions
We are looking for volunteers and if you wish to be part of the Paradise Elementary School Preservation Committee or attend the meetings, we encourage you to come to our next meeting. We meet at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Paradise Methodist Church Clubhouse on North Street in Paradise. Please invite someone else to join you. E-mail or call Lorraine Berish at [email protected] or (406) 827-6966 to be placed on the mailing list for meeting notices.
You can assist in the development of the “repurposing” plan
We need help in developing a fundraising strategy. We also need help in developing more detailed plans for the main purposes for the school, for example, historical exhibits, visual arts program and facilities, performing arts program and facilities, visitors’ center, and the Veterans’ memorial.
You can provide financial assistance
During Spring 2016 we must raise a threshold amount of money (or obtain sufficient pledges of money) in order to preserve the Paradise Elementary School and keep it in public hands. If we are unable to reach our funding goal, we will offer a refund to any post March 1, 2016 contributor for whom we have contact and contribution information. If we reach our funding goal contributions cannot be returned but are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Please consider a donation.
If you want to become involved, or just have more questions, call or email John or Karen Thorson at (406) 826-0500 or [email protected].
